Re: Polyester Gelcoats
Gelcoat will create a long lasting, hard, durable coating for your floor. You'll need to roll enough layers to get complete coverage, probably around 3. Too much and it will crack in due time.
I think the sand method looks like crap, get some non-skid particles from US Paint (alwgrip) or alexseal. Put the non-skid particles into a container in which you can shake them out (kinda like a salt shaker). I use old peanut/mixed nut cans. I poke holes on one side and keep lids on both sides. Fill it up and then take the lid of the side that has the holes and shake it evenly across the deck.
What I would do is:
-Roll on two layers of unwaxed gelcoat.
-Promptly after rolling the second coat, shake you container of non-skid particles over the floor onto the wet gelcoat. I find if you try to mix the particles with the gelcoat you will get uneven coverage no matter how diligent you are about stirring the mixture.
-Once this dries just blow over with compressed air or vacuum to pickup the particles that didn't stick.
-Now go over it will a layer of waxed gelcoat to seal in the non-skid particles. You're done.
Use at least twice the amount of non-skid particles that the manufacturer recommends, they always seem to underestimate it.
