Re: Pondering next project...aluminum pilot house boat...opinions and advice?

Well, down here in South Carolina after having a water pump installed and all fluids changed in the high mileage duramax.

There are literally a few thousand dollars worth of uninstalled new electronics, GPS's, stereo, fish finder, siren, boxes of accessories, a fighting chair, batteries, inverter, etc, etc. In the boat.

2000 200hp Suzuki 2 stroke, hydraulic jack plate, 9.9 kicker. 2007 aluminum trailer. The whole boat has been painted, topsides too.

It's a pretty wet boat. The floors "look" good but they're shot. Transom...probably has a few years left.

I'd say a good complete tear out is due soon for my standards.

$12,500. Gonna pull the trigger tomorrow. I don't want to finance a $30k pilot house then worry about leaving it in a wet slip most of the year(winter too)

Nothing scares me now. I'm an electrician/electronics tech by trade so I'm looking forward to a cool project.

Any thoughts?

You're a MUCH better judge of whether $12.5K project boat is worth it. Seems like a lot for a boat that may need to have some portion of the pilot house removed.

It sits on the deck, right? Or at least the cabin door bulkhead is on the deck.... Perhaps the pilot house itself is resting on the gunwale.

Oh, I had the repairs done at home before I left, but the "service" turned into a huge bill, almincha. Nice progress on yours, man.

Yes JB, looks like it has a cap and that it would all come off at the gunwales. Maybe I could work around/under the pilot house. I believe the stringers and bulkheads make up a grid system(no long stringers).

Thanks Zool. She may get bored not finding unexploded ordinance in the ocean from here on out, but what a cool legacy for a boat!

Is
Unexploded Ordinance
an inappropriate boat name?

It might be JB! Lol, at least until I can send her to "stringer rehab". Promised my wife I wouldn't cut into the deck on this one yet...It's like a disease...it's just too hard to leave a soft floor alone!
