I'm thinking about bringing my 18ft pontoon boat with a 9.9 merc to the outerbanks this summer (the place I'm renting has a bay side canal and boat dock). Besides a good cleaning at the end of the week is there anything I would have to lookout for concerning salt water or sand.

For a week-no worries. Just clean it up well when you pull it out.

I'd be concerned if an engine that small could push that boat against the current in a canal.

Good point. I have an 18' with a 50hp and toon in the bay behind Ocean City and the current is very strong at tide change. I would be careful of traveling through any bridges or narrow areas during the tide runs.

these are the canals- not expecting any current - it's the bay between N.C. and the outerbanks - i think the 9.9 will be fine- I just don't want to hurt my toons or trailer with salt.
