Pontoon cover drain

I bought a generic cover for my pontoon. I'm still trying to figure out how to prop it up so water doesn't pool, but I had an alternative idea. Why can't I punch a hole in the center of it with some sort of drain, that attaches to a PVC pipe that I can easily run off of the boat? On the surface, it sounds a lot more convenient than lugging supports around, and let's gravity work for me instead of against me.

What am I missing on this one?

because the drain would clog up with leaves and dead bugs, then fill your boat up when it rips off the cover and then you have a moldy interior to your pontoon.

Very effective props can be made with a frisbee attached to any type of pole (1-1/4 wooden handrail or round stock from any home store works great). Far easier to properly tent the cover than try to figure where pooling will occur next time you install the cover.

These are installed pretty easily with no special tools, even act as a small vent. 3 or 4 should be all you need.

I use those too on my pontoon boat cover I made. It's best to add some reinforcement in the area though as your cover will rip over time where the hole is put in it.
