Pontoon Re-Build

This is a first for me, but I am rebuilding a 20ft Bass Tracker pontoon, I am trying to get all the hardware etc together before I start the tear-down. The only problem I have found is the screws that hold the plywood to the frame. The screws that I am removing have a large head (dime size) with a thin taper so there is no need for countersinking the hole. Any suggestions as to where I might find these "Special" screws? None of the local Hardware stores can come up with anything close.
Thanks

Re: Pontoon Re-Build

We just rebuilt our pontoon, and replaced the original screws with stainless carriage head nut & bolts.

Those are called Elevator Bolts. A quick Google search will set you up..

I had never heard of elevator bolts but they look like they would do the job, but most of the ones I found on google.com did not have a slot for a screw driver and had a square base like a carriage bolt. Will these hold in wood without tearing out?

Yes, just whack them with a hammer before you put the nut on and the will tighten right up.

We used that kind at work for a long time then switched to the same thing but they have small points on them to dig in alittle better, I believe they are called "fanged".

Re: Pontoon Re-Build

I re-built my pontoon boat two years ago from the ground up. I ordered ALL of the parts for the rebuild from American Soft Trim, plywood and all. They supplied the parts ( plywood, carpet, furniture, Helm and steering system)bolts and all for the rebuild. They were great to work with and the prices were reasonable. Got any questions shoot me a PM.

Good Luck!!!

You can get Fanged Elevator bolts at tapcoinc.com. They have points that bite into the wood. you could use the stainless steel ones with the nylock nut. that would probably be the optimal setup.
