pontoon warranty beware

I just purchased a used 2007 pontoon boat this year and had some water in a pontoon so took it to a authorized dealer to have it repaired.
The dealer expected it to be covered by warranty as the problem was a weld on the structure on the top of the pontoon but to my surprise the warranty only covers the original owner and the second owner (if they have paid for the warranty transfer) .
In this case I am the 2nd user but technically the forth owner as the boat was repossessed so the bank became the 2nd owner and I bought the boat through a boat broker so he became the third owner.
So just be careful if you think you are getting a warranty

Rules are rules. How long do your expect them to warrant a boat? Four years seems fair to me.

They should warranty something like a weld on the toon for longer than 4 years for sure!

The point is that they would warranty the work if I was the second owner and it seems to me if you warranty the product for a specific amount of time there shouldn't be a exclusion that ends their responsibility because of number of owners,I don't even have a problem with paying a fee for transfer of ownership to keep records correct.
My roof warranty is specific to the house (pontoon to boat) not to the owner and I believe a car warranty is specific to the serial number not to the owner as long as they know who the owner is to send things like recall notices which I have had and am at least the third owner of my car.
It seems they have this exclusion just as a way to get out of their responsibility to honor their product

WOW- fine print on a warranty - What a shock
Sorry but a 4 yr old boat isnt going to get much warranty work done

If you thought you were buying the boat including a warranty, I understand your frustration. The reality is, they found/have an "out" on this one. The manufacturer missed a great opportunity here, though. Once it was determined the original weld was faulty, no matter how old, if the builder covered it, or at least 1/2 the repair, you would now be a happy camper. For that gesture, you would be praising the builder here, and likely would buy another when it's trade-up time. Oh, well!

Usually, any repo, auction, foreclosure type sale voids all warranties. Know a guy that bought a brand new boat at an auction from a dealer that had gone bankrupt. Had a few minor issues that would normally be covered with no questions. He was never able to get any help, even though 1 problem was an obvious manufacturing/wiring problem with the horn...

They probably shoudlhave been the good guy and covered it since it was a manufacturing defect regadless of the fine print, certainly would have gone a long way when the OP was looking for a new boat but as someone else said, rules are rules and you have to draw the line somewhere.

Thats usually not standard procedure with cars, anyway.
