Pool Table info needed

My wonderful wife (did I actually say that?) bought an '8 foot pool table without thinking about how much room we needed for it. So I'm trying to find out what the minimal clearance should be without going to short cue sticks. The business is closed so I am unable to get the answers from them. I may need to take down a wall in the basement (which I plan to do anyway, but not this early). But when they come next week to install it, I just want to make sure that I have the room without removing it yet. The space is now 13'6" x 28. Is 13' wide enough? If not, I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Thanks from the SS...

Re: Pool Table info needed

A standard pool cue is 57" long. On a standard 8' long table, the actual playing surface is 44" X 88". Throw in the sides, caps, etc., and it puts your actual outside table width at 57" x 101". In a 13 1/2' room, this will give you 53" on either side of the table, but 59" from the PLAYING SURFACE to the wall. MOST of your shots won't be affected, but there will be the once a year "straight on, cueball against the rail" safety. Usually just raising the butt-end of the cue a bit to take the shot solves the problem, when it arrives. Hope this helps.

I'm not a certified pool table mechanic ;) but I do know a thing or 2 about physics... and NINE-BALL! Happy "cheese rides"! :D

Thanks Mr. Moose :D The table will fit. Found a website giving the dimensions. You were real close. They suggesed the minimal distance width wise is 13'3". I have 13'6"...Cool, Cool, Cool, gonna shoot some Pool! The wall is gonna stay, the backside of it is going to be the Bar!

Thanks... SS

Now to get her something nice...Diamond studded pool cue? Yeah right, better wear a hard hat if she got that! Ear rings will have to do!

A general rulew of thumb here is six feet clearance per side. There is an unwritten law that makes the probabilty of the que coming to rest on the rail an exponential inverse of the distance from the side of the table to the wall subtracted from 60 inches. When we build our next house there will be a room specifically for a pool table and an air hockey game.

Best regards
SW
