A friend of mine did this about 8 years ago.He had inherited an old covertable pumper firetruck from somebody. Well, he was out on a bender(drunk) with a few of his buddies and they had a friend that owned a big house with a inground swimming pool. They also had a ski boat on a trailer. The owners of the house were gone so these guys think:"Wouldn't it be funny if we put the boat in the swimming pool, then pump it out?"I guess they all agreed it would be funny cause they managaged to get the boat off the trailer, into the water and not sink the trailer. Well, these drunks managed to hook up the 4" hoses and they drained the pool with the firetrucks pump. He said it didn't take too long. When the homeowners returned from their trip they were very mad, especially the wife! They knew who did it right away. He had to get the city to fill up the pool from a hydrant(amount of volume of water) and he and his"friends" had to get the boat onto the trailer and out of the pool. A sore subject to this day with the homeowners. I don't know how he got away with it that night, because this is a 1953ish and it ran a factory straight pipe. Beer+him=pranks. PDS

Re: Pools and boats don't mix.

Awhile back when I worked maintenance at a country club. We put the general managers 17' bayliner in the clubs pool. Tied the transom off to the lane rope eyelets at the end of the pool. Started it up, threw it in gear and pushed it to WOT. While this was happening pictures were being taken. Cool ones at that! Water all over the one end of the pool deck where the prop pushed the water out of the pool. We then lifted the boat back out of the water with the forklift and back on the trailer. Then next months Club flyer had a nice picture of the managers boat in the pool running full speed. Well,,,,we thought it was funny, but he sure didn't.

Your story brought back the memory of our prank. Thanks for sharing. :)

My uncle the redneck's redneck decided to test an engine he was working on under load. He placed his in his pool much the same way you describe but the rope broke/slipped. the boat ended up breaking the diving board and recieving some damage and he ended up wet from the sudden lurch or so the story goes. We only have one semi-reliable witness my aunt who tends to exaggerate things so I bet it was not nearly as bad as all that.

[redneck tried and true] i was having some problems with a clutch dog on a 115 evinrude a few weeks ago. changed the dog and wanted to test it out under load. now my local marina is about 25 miles away. it was late sunday evening and i had to work all the next week. it was to late to go to the marina and i didn't want to wait a week to test the lower unit. low and behold whats sitting in my back yard? a 3x15 above ground swiming pool. well why not raise the motor back the boat up to the pool lower the engine and try this badboy out i told myself. man that lower unit work like a dream. the prop was pushing the water out of the pool at half throotle. then out of the house runs the wife and the kids the wife yelling what in the **** are you doing just has the pool colapeses. needless to say there is no longer a pool in our back yard. i suspect i'll be in the dog house for a long while with the wife and the kids. or at least until i replace the pool. i'm still trying to convince them it was the only way to test the lower unit to insure we wouldn't break down on the water.
