Hello All,

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this post. If not my apologies. As shown in the picture attachment there is a square connection going into the gas tank. I would like to inspect and clean. If I unscrew the bolt flush the plastic tank is it safe or will I break something? Thanks

Do you want to inspect and clean the gas tank itself or just the fuel line? If only the fuel line I would leave the square piece there and just unhook the line going to it.
For cleaning the tank take off the fuel gauge sender, the round piece near the fuel line, and you will be able to see some of the inside of the tank, but not very much.

When I have to clean a fuel tank, I go through the sender hole with a 'claw' pickup tool holding a rag. It will soak up the sludge and pull the solid debris to the hole where you can pick it out.
It shouldn't need to be said: don't use a shopvac ! :target:

I think I just need to unhook the black line feed to the left of the elbow and while holding the large screw that is flush to the gas tank unscrew counter clockwise

Yes, that looks correct. It looks like that's a locknut for a gland that creates a female thread to thread the pickup into. It's been a while since I changed one, but I don't recall the pickup having a locknut of its own.

Bear in mind that those threads are aluminum and may not come apart without damage. They have a nasty habit of snapping off right where the threads start. Same goes for the anti siphon valve (the 'hose barb'). Sometimes those come out easier with a socket after heating the fitting a little to release the pipe dope. Then you can blow air back into the tank to see if it's plugged.
