My dad lives here in the middle of NC. He and my uncle have a center console they tow and leave at the beach all summer.
This spring, I and my dad took his boat to a large lake here where we live. First thing I noticed were smallish tires for the size boat. I told him considering how far he tows it (4.5 hours one way) he should put larger tires on the trailer.
Second thing I noticed was when we dropped the boat at a local lake the boat started to slide off the trailer before it reached the water. He has some kind of trailer bunk slicks installed. I used to live at the beach and the ramps there are a bit more steep than at our local lakes. SO I told him he needed to keep the bow winch attached until the boat is floating off the trailer.
Well...........He and my uncle took their boat to the beach yesterday. He got about 2 hours down the road when the tire blew. He got a new one and headed on down to the beach. Once there he and my uncle were launching the boat (uncle in boat, dad in truck) while backing my uncle told my dad to stop which caused the boat to slide half off the trailer! The boat struck the concrete ramp and did minimal fiberglass damage.
They managed to winch the boat back on the trailer and got it in the water. No holes but some glass work will be needed.
One side of my brain feels sorry for him as it sucks to have a day like that, but the other makes me want to laugh and say "I TOLD YOU SO".
