Poor throttle down

hI , CAN ANYONE HELP, I AMA NOVICE TO OUTBOARDS,AND JUST PUCHESED MY FIRST BOAT WITH A JOHNSON SEAHORSE 20hp .SHE STARTS OK AND SEEMS TO RUN FINE UNTIL YOU THROTTLE BACK,THEN SHE CUTS OUT AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET GOING,USUALLY HAVE TO GIVE IT CHOKE,DONT THINK ITS ELECTRICAL BECAUSE OF THIS.ANY ADVICE WILL BE WELCOME

Sounds like carb, either try adjusting the idle mix screw or clean the carb for starters. Welcome to iboats and lose the caps lock :D

Thanks captain , i'll try that . Would it be worthwhile running the appropriate cleaners through.

By 'cleaners' do you mean Seafoam? It won't clean your carb while running. Take the carb apart and soak it in carb cleaner, yes.

Like Catfish said you can't clean a carb by running a cleaner in the tank, the carb has to be removed, soaked and all the internals replaced with a kit.

Thanks Catfish and Captain,i'm used to car engines more , so still finding my feet. Will have a look at carb and get an expert on it . Thanks again
