Speak of poor trip preparation
Living in the North of Australia we get lots of tourist during our dry season, some of these tourists had travelled over 3000 Km to get here.
One Saturday lunch time I was loading my boat at the boat ramp when they arrived with their boat strapped to the roof of their 4 wheel drive. It was a very good setup they back down the ramp and with a winch setup lowered the boat and put into the water, got the motor out put it on the boat, put the fuel tank in then only found out that they had travelled all that way with the wrong fuel tank for their motor it had the wrong connector on the fuel line (I offered mine but it also did not fit). So I watched they reload the whole kit and go away hoping the local marine service place was still open to get a connector for their motor.
I still do not know if they ever got to go fishing.

S*** Happens Ive done DOH stuff like this many times and I don't think a change in geography would make much difference. Take a look at the Thread about leaving your plug out of the boat...

I had that happen to me once - out on the river. The newer fittings look so much alike. Thie differences are subtle. I never had that problem with the old Merc fittings - there ain't no mistakin' them.
Well, I came into some new tanks and thought the fitting was the same. I'm out on the river and the first tank is about to run out...got about a quart left and 3 miles to go. I went to switch tanks over and discovered the fittings was different. I wound up tilting the tank and limping in. Fortunately, I was running with a friend who was in his 15' MFG and I did have another full tank...I would have had to figure out how to transfer the fuel though.
