Re: Poor VHF radio performance

If you know any body that knows a ham operator he will be more than happy to check the antenna and modulation (Audio output) for free.
This is their hobby and they love that kinda stuff. I am ham operator and fix radios for a living (KE4CGE) Ham License
good Luck and 73's

magster - The easiest check that you can do is swap your radio with a friend's and test. That will isolate the problemm to either radio or antenna. You can do the same with some microphones as they are plugin rather than hard wired.

Re: Poor VHF radio performance

Reading 'BobinCa's' post with the coment about *cutting* the cable, it occured to me that in some instances the cables are too long, thus the percieved need to 'cut/shorten' the cable. My question..... can you simply loop it like winding up a garden hose and zip tie it to reduce the length? or does the many loops of coax next to each other in the looping somehow affect the antena reception? I'll admit I'm illiterate of all but the simplest of electrical workings, but with enough 'here-say' experiance to usually fubar up everything........lol......or not lol.:)

If your buddy is only hearing you on some channels but not on others you may want to check and insure that one of you is not on "International" channels. Many International channels are duplex which means that they transmit on one frequency and receive on a different channel (they go thru a repeater).
