Pop the cap?

On a 1985 Bayliner Bowrider with 85HP O/B, in the event I need to replace the Transom, I would have to "pop the cap" just to get at it, correct? I'm planning on replacing the deck on this boat over the off season, & stringers if necessary. I was out looking at it yesterday & figured that if the transom is bad I'm going to have to pop that cap off the boat just to get at it. Anyone out there know different that has done this on this boat?

Maxxie,

Since your previous post back in September, I don't think much has changed. If the transom and stingers are bad, it is usually MUCH easier to to the repairs with the topcap removed. You will have to make the final decision but I think you will find that removing the cap is the NORM for this kind of repairs on this boat.

I'm just sayin...:D

I just did transom and stringers on my 85 4winns santara with the cap on.. Its possible but a major PITA! Only reason i didnt remove the cap was because im working totally on my own with the boat in the yard and with limited tools. It involved alot of planning and crawling around in tight areas with fiberglass being blasted into the vents on my goggles but i got it done.

The pain of removing the cap will probably be outweighed by how much easier is makes everything else.
