Poppet valve issue

hey guys its me again, 1997 200 hp merc outboard carb v6. i seemed to have fixed everything i did everything you guys said. and i still have problems with water pressure. i think i might have installed the poppet valve incorrectly because if i remove the hose that pushes water through the poppet and i just hang it out and let it throw out water, the motor works fine. what could be my problem? something stuck? improperly installede valve? Oh, when it is idle it works fine, it olny messes up when i go over 1400 rpm's when i go over that, the flush port hose expands(obviously due to high water presssure) and then explodes. I still think this is a poppet valve issue. also, there is no water comiong out of the exhaust port whatsoever. only water comes out from the pee hole when the motor reaches 140 degrees

Hi Jeo,Does the flush port hose have a check valve?<br />Did you retrive all of the old impeller?

yes and yes. the check valve is at the end of the hose though. is there supposed to be one on the block? before the hose?

If I read you correctly your saying you develop too much pressure and the hose breaks. Almost as if the poppet valve is stuck. A couple of things come to mind -- whats the water pressure? Are you using the correct hose material?<br /><br />If the hose is correct and the valve still sticks, are you sure you have the correct spring? A spring thats too long will collapse and nver let the valve open. A spring thats too stiff will keep it closed too. If the hose, spring and valve are all correct you could replace the valve with a washer to test. This will simulate an "open" valve and may run too cool at idle so its only a test. <br /><br />We've seen cases where we could reduce the spring pressure (cut one or two rounds off) in warm water as you are in Miami. In these cases the water was being held in the block too long and would heat up causing the motor to run too warm.<br /><br />Hang in there, good luck!

If you're not getting water out of the upper exhaust the valve isn't working. The valve will only open at higher rpms's obviously, so don't expect to see water exiting the exhaust at idle or lower running speeds.<br /><br />The poppets are tricky. Yours is probably different than mine. But there isn't a lot of cost to an entirely new kit...<br /><br />I would go ahead and buy the kit (if you haven't already) and replace everything. The diaphram, spring, gaskets, grommets, valve, etc. Or you can clip off a few loops of the current spring and see if that helps first. <br />But I would go to your parts dealer and get the proper poppet kit just to make sure you have the correct valve...

Hi Jeo, make sure that you're using the correct hose and that the check valve is facing the right direction.<br />I am of the assumption that the poppet valve is stuck shut,that's what is causing the high pressure.
