poppet valve on 91 175 efi/xri

Can the poppet valve get stuck for having sand sucked up in motor and cause an overheat alarm at wot?

Yes,... It can get stuck open and clogged with debri...<br /><br /> poppet

Don't neglect the thermostats. They will be filled with sand too. Put the flushers on the engine, remove the thermostats and run the engine at idle until the sand is gone. Re-fit thermostats.<br /><br />Chris..............

I had some junk stuck in mine and instead of pulling the poppet, I hooked a hose up to the pee tube hose and back flushed with the motor OFF. May help, don't really know for sure but cured my problem.

Back flushing through the pee hole won't help, as you have to go through the t-stats which will be closed to get enough flow to flush anything. <br /><br />Back flush though the t-stat housing area (after removing the t-stat(s)).
