Has anyone ever had a problem with a poppet valve .Looks like I am going thru a process of elimination due to overheating.Impellers, thermostats, strainers, clear of obstruction hoses, strong tell tale, but still overheating, now I'm told "lets check the poppet valve".I have noticed very very low water psi...anyone ever had to deal with poppet valve. eng.150 opti 2005 90hrs.

Re: Poppet Valve

You need to understand the function of the poppet valve. It is designed to relive water pressure at about 2500-3000 rpm at a specified pressure. This allows more water to flow through the block, thus allowing for cooling. It would not affect low speed overheating unless it is stuck open and that would allow too much to flow too fast through the block thus causing low rpm overheating. Do a search, there lots of information on the threads here.
