1988 Ev 15 hp

In tank, difficulty getting into forward gear. Took off cover and can see metal divot sits in neutral and reverse positions perfect on black plate on side inside case leading from shift knob, but when tried to put into forward it seems too difficult and when i do get it BARELY into forward it pops into neutral within 10 seconds or so apparently due to vibration. What is the problem here???

Sorry for the non-technical wording. Im a beginner at this......

Thanks for any help.

Re: Pops out of forward gear???

I dont know your motor. But, it sounds like a bad clutch dog. Sometimes , you can turn it around , and it'll work.
I'm used to bigger motors. But, I think they should be similar.
Good- Luck ,
KYHunter

If you plan to try to fix yourself. You need to get an oem manual ,for your motor.

Could adjusting the timing plate under the flywheel be the cause of this????

Nope. It's either out of adjustment(Shift) or the gear is worn...
