I was out fishing yesteray and was have some problems with my sonar, lost accurate depth while moving, so I switched props. The one that was on there had some nicks out of the ends of it from last year but was still working without vibration. I put on the other prop and relaunched the boat started to take off and at about 12 mph it popped out of gear, no grinding or anything just reved up and quit moving. I took back out of gear and went right back in but pops out evertime I hit about 12. The two props are not the same the one I put on, I was told has more torque. The two don't mount the same way the old one you put an insert in the middle to mount and the one i put on has the spline right on the prop and you add a spacer to the end to makeup for the extra length at the end of the shaft. Could the new prop with more torque made an underlying issue come to surface such as loose shift cables or something. Any thoughts on the issue would be appreciated.

Put the original prop back on, If you can get it pop out the the issue is with the cables or the drive. If not then it the other prop.
Post the makes and pitchs of the props (both or all) and the kind of drive you have. I think you are talking about a 1 drive but still need the makes of the props.
Pics would help a ton too.

Howdy,

If it's "popping out of gear" and it's NOT clunking every time it does it, it's probably the prop (rubber) hub slipping....and the prop will need to be "re-hubbed"/replaced

If it's making a rather obvious and fairly loud "clunking" sound when it "pops" out of gear, then you have a shifting problem and need immediate attention to prevent damage (which will require a drive "rebuild") .... It may be a shift cable/shift adjustment issue and the damage may already be "done"......Dog clutches don't last long with any sort of abuse.....
