porpoising/smart tabs questions

my boat is a 16ft semi-v that weighs a little over 700lbs dry w/o the 70 yamaha motor. it gets high 30s at 5700 with the factory 17p alum yamaha prop in ideal conditions and very light load, but i feel that i could get more out of it if it didnt porpoise so easily. the boat has pretty good natural bow lift. if you try to trim it up past about 1/4 of the way it porpoises. i drive a wide variety of outboard powered boats at my job, and playing with them it seems they can take a lot more trim before porpoising. i guess my question is will smart tabs help me trim out higher for a little more speed? also wondering do props have anything to do with porpoising or just hull design/weight distribution?

i have a chance to get some smart tabs for cheap, im just not 100% sure if they are the right size for my boat they are the ST1290-60.

I think smart tabs will do wonders. I was amazed at what they did for my boat. Greater hole shot and better trimming.

You can check the chart below (from the www.nauticusinc.com website) for the correct sizing for your boat. The 1290-60 seem OK to me, but you may want to experiment a bit with the pressure settings (probably start out at the light end). You'll probably like these tabs a lot.

Get the Smart Tabs, they are worth it.

i was worried about these being too much for my boat, but it does definitely fit in the bottom end of the range for that part number. So there is some amount of adjustability in the pressure?
