I am about to put my boats name, Lady Emanuel (Family name in honor of my wife, daughter, mother, and step mother) and hail port on my boat. I live inland and tend to put her in the water in a few different places, Antioch, Stockton, San Leandro, Bodega Bay. How do I choose the port of hail? The closest one, the one I use most, the one I like the best, what's the proper way to choose? I know I can put my home town name even if it's not a port, but that sounds like a newby thing to do.

Yeah, a trailerboat should show your home town, but there's no official requirement unless the vessel is federally documented.
OTOH, if you kept your boat in a slip (or hi and dry) at a marina, I think it's appropriate to use that town as your home port. That's what I do.

I recently saw a post on iboats from someone that referenced a web site that would do a vinyl name for $20. E-bay maybe? Does anyone know?

Home Port is really something that is more appropriate for a documented vessel, but I don't think there is anything wrong with putting it on a small boat. I guess I would put the name of my home town on it.

that's the way a buddy a mine did it, even though we live in a cornfield... myself. i just went with a name, no home port... have fun and be sure to christen it proper.. ;)
