Just bought a new boat 1989 with 2 Merc 4.3 LXE Ser# OC534197 & Ser# OC454332
And 2 Alpha One Drive Ser# OF162054 & OF162055

The Shift Control is a QuickSilver Link below (same but Older)

The Port Side Shifter wants to go back to neutral at low RPM.
I must keep my hand on it until I reach half way (50% travel). At that position and 100% Travel it will stay
in position.
I have no problem with the Starboard Shifter.
Both Shifters will engage OK, Forword & Backword. Neutral Position is OK for Both also.

Is there a Tension adjustment on the Remote Control Port Side Shifter?
ThankYou for your help

Yeah there should be a tension screw under the cover or down lower.

After you take the cover off, you will have to remove the 4 screws holding the unit into the dash or possibly from under the dash to get to the friction adjustment. It's below the handle an inch or so.

Thanks Don for the precision.
I will be at my boat this morning.
Will get back if needed.
