What I did was disconnect the pump out hoses and use mine as a regular porta potti. Since I want to empty mine each day I use the boat I don't see the sense in having to go to a pump out station when I can just empty it in the toilet at home. I will remove the cap and rehook up the pump out connections if/when I sell the boat.

You should have fitting somewhere on the gunwhale, usualy ss. On most you need a special tool to open it with. Some people do what you do, pull it out and drain it at home, I worry about spilling some of the nastyness in my boat carrying it out of the boat. Some marina's have a fresh water hose attatched to the pump hose to flush it out and repump again( does'nt do a good job)I take mine out at the end of the season and preasure wash it at at a coin op car wash at the end of the season.

Jim

All I did was tighten down the pump out cap real tight and not worry about the vent (both are much higher than the water level). I'd have to be sinking to get water in the vent fitting and the o-ring on the pump out cap will keep it water tight. As far as the porta potti itself, it came with both sets of fittings. So I removed the pump out fitting and replaced it with a cap.
