I have a couple of 12 gallon, plastic fuel tanks, which I use as aux tanks. I haven't used them for awhile, but need to do so, over the next few weeks. Just to be on the safe side, I removed the cap and and peered inside. While doing this, I discovered lots of "globs" of what appears to be gooey 2 stroke oil. It is very sticky and is about the color of brown mustard.
I dumped the remaining fuel (not much) into an old gas can, for later disposal. Once completely devoid of fuel, I flushed the tanks with a hose at high pressure. I expected this to clear the remaining "globs," it didn't work completely.
In searching a few old threads here, I saw some comments about using cheap carburetor cleaner, to break the junk up. Has anyone done this lately? Does it work?
Also, if I can't get it all out, what are the opinions about how much of a problem a few globs of this stuff will make. I use a filter/water separator, as well as an inline wire mesh filter, which is mounted between my fuel pump and carbs.
What say you, outboard tinkerers of iboats?
???
