Looking to buy a portable gas gen to take on the boat. Looking for one that would be the quietest. It would be outside on my swim platform.

boats4ever,

Honda. Be CAREFUL, where you put this unit and when you run it. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is rampant here in this part of the country with houseboats and people using portable gen-sets on weekenders.

CO is heavier than air and will collect in cabins, bilges, etc. It is not easily diffused by air currents around it and tends to pool in low areas.

Get yourself some CO detectors and do not run the unit when someone is below decks.

Hello,
Honda makes an excellent generator, but all in their model line are not "quiet". You need to look for the upper end 4 pole models. They turn less rpms and are quieter.
Good Luck,
Little Bear

Re: Portable Gas Generator

boats4ever,
We bought a Honda 3000EUi last spring to use with our 29' travel trailer. It runs as quiet as advertised. We get about 24 hours on 3 1/2 gallons of gas. We paid about $1450.00 and the price included electric start. It runs everything in the trailer, including the microwave and electric coffee maker at the same time. The year before we borrowed a friends 3500 watt and it couldn't handle microwave and coffee pot at the same time. The 3000EUi is everything they said it was. It's a little heavy at 135 lbs. but my wife and I can load and unload it with no problem. If you don't need 3000 watts, there is also a 2000EUi and a 1000EUi. The 1000EUi is about the size of a portable sewing machine. Do a search on the internet for your best pricing(+Honda +generator) and then buy where you feel the most comfortable. You can go to this site for more detailed info. http://www.southwestfastener.com/productsHonda.htm
If you need more info e-mail me at:
gnwbreeders@yahoo.com
Hope this helps, BUCK :)

Re: Portable Gas Generator

We had an ice storm in our area and the electricity was out for several days to over 2 weeks for some. I seen several brands of generators bought and the quietest by far was a John Deer brand generator. It had a large tube shaped muffler that whispered. The rest all were close to lawn mower level. Some more or less.

The muffler on the John Deer was similar to a muffler on an Onan generator for a motor home.

FYI

Arlan

Re: Portable Gas Generator

My neighbor has one of those Deere's, they're made by Yamaha and they are extremely quiet. Much more than the Hondas we have at work of course we have commercial generators.

We have blackouts all the time wish I could afford one of those JD's lotts of $$$
