I have a 15’-6” Smoker Craft Resorter that I want to go to a 24v battery for a new trolling motor. The current battery compartment is not wide enough. The area next to it where the gas tank is placed is actually a few inches wider. Is there a reason why I should not switch the positions of the battery and gas tank? Thank you!

This is just a guess since I'm not familiar with your boat but why not? If the battery location is secured and out of the elements I don't see an issue. Hopefully someone that knows your boat can chime in with a real educated answer.

Gee, batteries, outboards and portable fuel tanks have been side by side for decades. Open boats with outboards do not have an issue there. Obviously, inboard and sterndrive boats need a blower for the fuel tanks, but not the batteries.

Make sure ALL electrical crimps have a rubber sleeve to prevent a SPARK accidently occuring. While working on electrical connections.

I don't argue with your thinking, however, take another look at today's boaters skills and experience, they need all the safety warnings they can
get ! Around here in just the past few weeks.....4 fisherman were tossed into the lake when their boat filled with water and rolled over from anchoring off the stern in rough seas. Two teenagers had to be rescued after their rowboat capsized when they were miles off shore in rough water. Then the carbin cruiser that blew up shortly after leaving the fuel dock.....I don't think today's boaters have enough reminders when it comes to safety !!

The only comment I have is to be sure the compartment is vented. If not, cut a hole in the side and add a vent.
