There have been times when we have not been on the water and wanted to get the boat to the water without deflating it. The launching wheels work great but not for highway use.

I found this Trailer In A Bag http://www.trailerinabag.com/index.html that comes apart to the largest piece being about 40 inches long. Mine will be modified and be something in between the single and double trailer offered by Trailer In A Bag. I will have to add some bunks, bow and transom support. The weight rating is overkill for our boat but we will be able to use it for an atv trailer also.

We should have it towards the end of next week. I will keep you posted.

Re: Portable trailer for inflatable

I hadn't seen this idea when I was looking at building my trailer. I bought the inflatable to be able to go into a 12ft garage on the back of our toyhauler seeing I can't pull double trailers. With the futura with console and 60hp motor defating the boat completely was not an option, so I decided to modify a inexpensive trailer that the tongue would fold underneath, would have a drop down locking wheel under bow, and a winch tie hook to allow me to pull it up the trailer ramp.

Now I lower the middle wheel (caster), fold the tongue around, deflate the front sections, and remove the first 2 floor boards.

At this point it is only 11ft long, 6.5 ft wide, takes minutes to set up and can be trailered the normal way with the hitch swung back into place and bolted.

I have attached a couple of pictures, soory none of the boat on it yet as we have been working hard to get the boat ready. By the way it is a Zodiac Futura Mark 3

Gravity Matters, you did a great job on the trailer mod. Unfortunately I don't have a toy hauler per say but I do pretty good with what we have. The trailer in a bag will be stored in the under body storage bays of our motor home. We do have some other toys in tow. Thanks for the info. Here is a photo of our traveling package.

Jim, that's a cool idea, this trailer is light enough to be able to tow it with an ATV to remote lakes... Please post some pictures when you get the trailer, and share feedback too! :)

P.S. nice motor home!

Awesome set-up Jim.

We have just gone the other route, from motorhome with tow behind enclosed trailers to truck pulling toyhauler! Both ways have many advantages.

Re: Portable trailer for inflatable

The trailer came in yesterday evening. I bought a couple of rollers for the rear portion of the tubes and a bow stop. The transom will rest on the rollers and the rear portion of the trailer. The inflatable keel rests right on the center line of the trailer, I will probably add a bunk or two there and on the transom also. I will wait till I mount the engine and see how it tows.

The trailer assembles and disassembles in minutes. The tail light mounts that were on the trailer will not work due to the width of the boat, I was able to mount them in the launching wheel brackets with quick pin. I probably should have ordered the plastic fenders, I am sure that I will if I can't find any locally. For my intended use I think this trailer will work perfectly :)
