Are asking about the head on your boat? Or a porta potty like the ones used at a construction site? If it’s the head on your boat check with the local marina they will have a suction hose that goes into a wastewater holding tank. Some will charge and some don’t to drain your holding tank.

Mnemonic:
There are products (chemicals) on the market that you put down the bowl to reduce the smell in the head. I think you can get them from RV places and check at Wally world.
good luck

Ahh, nothing better than the smell of rancid **** on a hot 95 degree day. Most porta-potties can be rigged for overboard pumpout, however on a cuddy like your boat, it's probably just a removable tank. On my old cuddy, the lower part of the tank seperated and then you could take that home to dump in the regular can. Then give the tank a good washing. Also, have found that sealand brand tank deoderizer (the blue stuff, NOT the green) works best. Nice minty fresh smell.

Make sure its empty come winter! The one in my old sailboat wasn't, and it cracked at one of the seams. Come spring, there was a nice urine puddle to deal with.

LOL, some good responses here... :)

I looked in the boat today and the little storage cabinet behind the head has a hose that goes overboard and there is a hole in the back of the wall where the head is. I betcha this is for overboard pumpout, but it isnt connected... so does that mean she just pissed and flushed into the storage compartment?

How does the overboard pumpout work? when it flushes it just goes into the sea? or it has to be sucked out?

Re: PortaPotti Smell, maybe cause im an idiot?

I have a cuddy with a portable. Mine can be hooked up for pump out. You should have a cap on the outside of your boat that says "Waste". Mine does and that is where they pump it out. The person who had the boat before me disconnected the hose and corked it off. Probable because with time the hose begins to smell like, well, you know what.

When it flushes it goes into a holding tank. Actually it really does not "flush" at all. Nothing goes out into the sea or lake. The large boats with a "head" have a holding tank that everything goes to when you flush. After a while it will fill and will have to be pumped out. The boats with a "head" flush and use water. Typically the small pporti-potty does not.

Well it is possible the ole wife pissed in the storage cabinet but probably not by sitting on your potty. If there was pee in the storage tank then it didn't go anywhere. Besides I'm sure there is a valve of some sort that has to be turned in order to draw the waste from the potty through the hose you are talking about.

Next time she needs to ****, do it in the lake and then you won't have any problems.

Used to have a rule that the first one who used it had to clean it. Not used very often.

Marine heads are usually set up in 1 of 2 ways.

A self contained unit that has to be dumped or pumped (waste sits in the toilet tank until removed) You can just pick these up and dump in an appropriate place. These need the blue chemicals to break down solids and reduce odors.

A marine head that is flushed either directly overboard or into a holding tank depending on a valve setup. Most US waters require the holding tank. The holding tank is pumped out at a waste station at a marina.

You need to study your plumbing. If she flushed it it went somewhere. If it went into the bilge because of bad plumbing that would explain the stink. If she didn't flush it sufficiently to get it into the holding tank it can stink up the hoses, particularly if the hose is made of inexpensive materials.

Ugh.... i got to learn the inner workings of a holding tank this afternoon... UGHHHHHHHH...

I was too embarrased to do anything with it in my slip, so i made sure it was sealed real good, threw it in my car and headed back to the house (only 1 block away) and emptied it in the toilet.

I am taking this thing off the boat. I'm making the bathroom into a room where all the electronics and amps hook instead of cluttering my storage compartments.

If the wife needs to pee, her *** is hangin off the stern.

FWIW.
The so-called Porta-Potti works great when used properly.
We used one when camping 30 years ago and when the correct chemicals and toilet paper is used it was virtually odor and trouble free. I have a real aversion to the smell of crap and it was no problem for me to empty the holding tank portion at all. I had serious doubts until we used it and like I said, with the right chemicals, odor/stink shouldn't be a problem.

Geez, nice guy, leave it there for the female passengers. It's a must for enjoyable boating for them, make a compromise, no # 2's in there. Just be a man and deal with it, put a half gallon of water in there, add some of that blue chemical, there'll be no smell. It's a part of boating...............

Actually, given all the discharge rules and plumbing requirements for marine heads, a properly cared for self-contained (not connected to anything) portapotti is by far the simplest, cheapest, and most effective head you can have,
