I removed the cable from the steering wheel when I removed the console, as I am redecking my pontoon. Now I need to know, when I put the console back, is there a set position for the steering wheel when starting the cable back in. I know I will be able to use a trial and error method, but I would like to know the correct procedure. Also, I noticed there is a tube of oil to the side. Should I refill that tube? By the way, all of the help I have been given from this forum has been excellent. :) Thanks in advance.

Pon,

Insert the cable slowly until fully seated. While doing so count the revolutions of the wheel. Remove the cable. Orient the wheel to your preferred position and then rotate the wheel in the opposite direction the number of turns counted when inserting the cable. Now insert the cable until fully seated again. The wheel should be the way you want it.

Re: Position of steering wheel when restarting cable

Thank you very much for the replies. I have one other question regarding control cables. I want to order new ones from iboats parts and I need to know if you measure only the outside part of the cable to get the correct size. For some reason, if you measure the whole cable it doesn't fall into a whole foot, but I noticed if you would measure just the outside cable it would be 11 feet. If no one knows for sure, I will call in the order to iboat rather than ordering off the website. Thanks again.

The ice is melting, it won't be long!!!!!!
