Re: positioning boat on trailer

Thanks. That looks simple enough. I should be able to get the chain hooked up tomorrow. I may have to do some searching online for the strap. My winch is old and ugly but it seems to work alright. Yours is so clean and nice...I have winch post envy:D

if the winch is reversible, change the strap so that it leads off the top of the spool, that way it won't drag on the metal.

Have you ever checked the balance of the boat/trailer combo?
Whith the moving around of the boat, you might wanna recheck.
Should be about 7 to 10 percent of the total weight of the boat/engine/gear/gas...etc on the coupler. Ya don't want it too light...trust me.

Just my $.02

I have not. I will not really be able to until the project is a little further along. Right now I am just trying to figure out enough to get it close. Once the motor is on, deck and seats in etc. then I still have room for adjustments and will probably need to make a few. But while we are on the subject, what happens if its too light? thanks.

you move the boat and winch stand forward a couple of inches , for too light, back for too heavy. thats why i like long bunks.

Too light and you will fishtail at some speed. The tail will wag the dog.
Too heavy you'll degrade your tow vehicle steering and front (primary) braking.
Lots of threads on the subject here on iBoats.

Ohhhh. OK, I found alot of stuff on adjusting the weight but thats the first answer I found on why. I wont really be able to figure it out for a while but that explains the long conversations on messed up bathroom scales.Thanks.
