i followed several post and how to test for my no charge problem.

i ran my test using my ohm meter. and here the numbers i came back with

yellow = + lead = 4.01 ohms - lead (reversed + on ground) .721 ohms

yellow /w = + lead 4.01 ohms - lead (reversed) .720 ohms

red = + lead 30.1 ohms - lead (reversed) .701 ohms

blue = + lead 9.3 ohms -lead (reversed) 1.5 ohms

now the post ive read all said there is no tollerance for current when the negative lead was used and the positive lead was grounded out.

so would these numbers say to me that i have a bad unit?

I was always under the impression that you will always get some resistance from the wire it self.

Battery 12.36 idle. and 12.25 at 1000 rpm.

Thanks in advance!

A little information on what outboard you're working on and why you're doing this testing might be useful. As it stands, we have no idea what you're doing or why.

sorry edit didnt stick for some reason.

89 johnson 150 vro (disconnected) and its not charging. battery reading between post stays 12.6 ish at all times. now i was just informed that the previous owner (my uncle) said he had crossed leads on the battery at one time years ago but said it charged after he did it. now i dont know how credible that is (hes about 75 now)

Check stator AC voltage across the yellows to the R/R. If < 25 VAC at fast idle (~1400 RPM), stator or wiring is NG. Do a diode check for the R/R before condemning it.
