Have a question. on the rear of the engine is a what looks to be water outlet ports at least I think, older smaller engines use to output water here when the thermostats opened, only thing that comes out of here when running seems to be either exhaust or steam gases, there is a very strong water jet coming from the "pee port" and plenty of water exiting through the prop! motor does not appear to over heat, but I'm concerned something may not be right, also when on the water moving @ or below 10mph exhaust fumes seem to be strong, VRO has been disconnected and oil is pre mixed! is this typical with these older 2 strokes?

Post the model number so we know which engine.

Yes that is typical. Strong pee stream from that center fitting, and a small amount of water and exhaust from the side holes.

Not sure about your question regarding exhaust fumes. That is very subjective. There MIGHT be some tuning you could do to reduce it, or possible use a synthetic oil.

Those are bypass ports and a small misty spray of water and exhaust is normal from those. When stopped, the pressure of the water on the through-hub exhaust would create idle issues so the bypass ports reduce that back pressure at idle. Under way there is not exhaust back pressure.

Putt around as slow as possible for 5 minutes, pull the cowl and touch the spark plug bases. If too hot to touch for a couple seconds, it's not cooling properly, if it's good, pull me skiing! When I say 'hit it'..

:) I'm in Mn, and 4" of ice are separating my ski and liquid water.

Joking aside, I think the VRO essentially minimizes oil at idle, and if disabled would result in an oilier/smoky exhaust at low speeds. Synthetic should help, I'd try a mid-priced syn blend by the gallon at the discount store..
