Not sure what that means, Is that the prop that was being used on the boat that vibrates?

the prop was tested on a different boat and no vibration all thru the full rpm range.... i ruled out the prop

Re: possible coupler problems.....vibration.

I would try installing the coupler that bolts to the flywheel.
The 1998 service training notebook (these things have info a manual never thought of having) shows the 3 bolt flexplate style coupler with 3 bolts on the 3 wings on the outside of the coupler are for engine with a 1 piece rear main seel only.
Since your engine has a 2 piece seal, you should be using the crankshaft bolt pattern (small) coupler.
May be your problem, guess you will find out.

thank you don....i have in my hand a crank coupler with the casting number 90741x....

it looks to me like a sierra 18-2171.
however the picture of the kit 182172.......showes 6 studs. washers, and nuts......
would i be able to use the standard crankshaft bolts?....(i bought new ones) the depth of the coupler flange looks to be approx just under 1/2 inch....

heck.....thats a lot to go thru.... ill check the length of the bolts...might need different ones.....or should i use the stud assembly?

I don't know what the lengths of the studs are on the crank mounted couplers. But they are longer than the standard studs. Bolts probably won't work as you can't get them inside the coupler properly. That is why they use studs and not bolts.
