Possible kill switch problem

We bought a 1994 pontoon last year with a 90 horse evinrude. Owner stated sometimes it will run for 10, 15 minutes and shut down, then wait another 10 minutes and it'd fire back up. The thought ut may be the pack causing this. We bought it anyway and the first time we took it out it did the same thing. Running along and like you pulled the kill switch. We pulled the shifter up, found the wires to the kill switch. Unplugged one and it fired up then wouldnt turn off and you got shocked if you happen to touch a end of the wires. Carfull plugging it back in it would shut down with the key. Im thinking I need a new kill switch. My question is could the problem be in the key switch as well, should i replace both?

anything is possible but such timely shut downs would probably be related to heat generation affecting..something involved with the ignition even a new pack can get hot !

Do you have a pee stream
have you tried testing the pee stream .. is it HOT or warm when it dies ?
can you scan the engine temp with an infra red reader before and after when it dies ?
how long ago was the impeller replaced ?

I do have a strong pee stream. I pulled it out just the other day to hook up batteries and start getting it ready and ran on the muffs for bout 15 minutes with no isues. Didn't see how warm the stream was ir take temo on the block but will tomorrow.

Temperature of the tell tale is not a good indicator of motor cooling !-----It only tells you that water pump is working.----Telltale stream does NOT circulate through the engine block on many motors.------Is oil injection in service and tested ?-----Has water pump impeller been replaced.-----And post your compression numbers here.

are you saying an overheated engine will not influence the outgoing temp ?

He is saying that on many motors, the pee stream comes out before the water has entered the cylinder block. And I agree.

I think that one has a water cooled regulator, so doubly important that the block isn't overheating. Might check that first with an IR tester at top of heads -- may be due/overdue for water pump work. Temp should be 130-140F (160F is too hot).

I agree also but eventually some of that " to hot" water should come out to influence the pee stream temp depending on the thermostat design no?
