I don't know. Kinda sounds like he had it coming. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about others' misfortune, even when it's self induced, but I wouldn't be too concerned about the boat gods zapping you. One thing you learned from this situation; pontoons are pretty tough. That's why those of us with kids, dogs, etc. love them so.;)

Jason:
Just has a similar experience with a 2001 Sweetwater that I bought. Everything was running great but after a day in the water it probably took on 400 lbs of water in the port tube. I was panicked, thinking I would have to replace the tube. Sounds like you have resolved the problem. My toon is with a welder now and I expect it will be around $100 to fix. I was told by a local dealer they've had to fix 6 or so pontoons over the years (from leaks caused by manufactured welds) Apparently its no big deal. He said on the Sweetwater toons, they have found welds failing on the nose of the tube where the curve just meets the bottom of the keel (in the front). I'll let you know how it turns out.

Glad you got it fixed right and at the right price. You owe your buddy a case of 'something", whatever he likes. Yes that was a really crappy weld, what we in the trade call "chickensh!t". We have a 24' Landau and love it. Had 9 people aboard yesterday for a father's day outing. Barbecued hot dogs and just had fun swimming and cruising.

Just so you know I put my money where my mouth is and dropped off my barge at the weld shop last week. I just returned from picking her up and it looks like they did quite a bit. I'm not surprised. She took some abuse in her previous life, but she's got a good home now. I'll be giving her a good test this weekend, spending Friday night and probably the bulk of Saturday on the water. Just ordered a new Magma rail mount grill and I'm putting tires on the trailer this week. By the end of the week I'll be ready to rock and/or roll!

Glad you got her fixed up. Buddies that weld are a great thing to have. And the price is always right:D. Yeah, I guess Dixon would be a bit of a haul. Too bad, I could have helped drink the "welders fee":p.

Up in Clinton, IA, they have River Days, sounds a lot like you described. Sit out on the boat and listen to great music and hang loose. A lot of good bands play there.

Down in the QC, they have Sturgis on the River. You should check it out for next year. Might be worth trailering up for the weekend and getting a hotel. Good times.

Happy boating.
