Hi. I might purchase a 98 maxum with a bad 7.4 mpi engine. It's a sc and the space available for engine removal looks like I will have to pull the engine forward a good bit and then tilt it quite a bit to clear the floor. My current boat-granted it's a 4.3 v6- was just unbolt and lift. Large engines in smaller boats-23 to 28 foot- require shoehorn to remove /install the engine? Once out I'll have no problem-I can rebuilt a big block chevy in my sleep- and the price is very fair for the boat. How stout are the bravo 1 outdrives? It has 1 and looks clean-no visible corrosion- seller offers guarantee of the health of the outdrive. Thanks for any and all replies.

Some are a bugger to get out, they put the motor in,then install the cap. It's do-able,try to remove any trim or anything that gets in the way first.

Bravo 1's are bullet proof as are the 7.4 engines. The only problem is that they are more pricey for replacement or rebuild, probably because they have been phased out.

Shoe horn is about right . . ., depending on the engine room layout. Mine was pretty tight . . .

But it came out . . .

Here is it going back in . . .

Re: possible new boat

Guy wants 4000 for the boat with trailer. It's all there but looks unloved-pitted rusty grabrails, bottom paint needs serious attention, engine is shot. But I'm still thinking It would be fairly hard to lose since I'm doing all the work. What are these boats actually worth in average to good condition? What do they sell for? Thanks for the info on engine removal. Had not thought of disassemble down to either long or shortblock then remove. Cause man is this thing built around.

Thanks everyone that replied. The only thing to do is take a trip with a truck and have a look. If repairs are as stated I'll probably buy it. Thanks a lot folks. Great site.

Just be careful about the 7.4 block. If you have to replace it, it can wipe out the economics and you'll be selling ( or valued) for about what you invested, if that. If the outdrive needs work, then it is game over.

Is this a 23 footer (or bigger)?

It's a bit over 23. I'm going to wait a bit. I gave the owner a extremely fair offer and he declined so I'll see what happens. There are always others to come.
