1984 3.0 mercruiser. I have some "clacking" and I'm pretty sure it's the rockers. Can I adjust these while the motor is running and can anyone suggest some better fasteners for the rockers? Thanks all,.

You can but not necessary. rotate the motor until a intake valve opens and closes , that cylinder is on the compression stroke, adjust both pushrods , tighten untill you cannot spin the pushrod with your fingers and go 3/4 more, move to the next cylinder, etc.

I have always done it with the motor running.

there are no better fasteners than the nuts that are on there now.

make sure its not stuck valves and it is simply a tappet adjustment

Thanks, I'm sure I can find a YouTube video showing me how to do it. I'm assuming if it's a stuck valve I just won't see it moving up and down but then again wouldn't I have running issues if one was stuck?
