Possible to clean up dings?

Hi everyone,

I bought an old 14ft Western tinny and it has a 73' Merc 20hp with a 3 bladed aluminum prop. It has a number of small dings along the blade edges, who knows, it might be the original. Anyway, my question is: can an average joe use a file and clean up those dings without causing any major problems? Thanks.

Rik, just use the file to knock off any burrs, don't try to sharpen the edges.

Great, thanks. They are pretty much like you described ~ little burrs. So I'll dress the blades up a bit and not shape or sharpen them.

What shape does the blade edge usually take? Is it a slight rounding, squared off, or something else? I suppose the leading and trailing edges are different, maybe someone can clue me in.

Excellent forum, by the way.
