A friend is selling his Cobalt and said last season he had some issues when he took it out. He wants to fix it prior to selling and I said I'd help track down his problem.
He said it starts right away, but when he stops after running great, it won't start back up. After it sets for a while (sometimes 10 mins, sometimes longer) then it will start and run fine. I've done some searching and read a bit about vapor lock. Are there any known issues/ a 1998 5.0 Volvo? Where should I start? Any other things that might cause that?? Thanks!!

Re: Possible Vapor Lock? Cobalt 190 5.0

The 5.7 GL in my 1998 recently was cutting out and bad gas, vapor lock, other fuel problems were suspected by many. Turned out it was a short in the wiring harness that would show itself when the harness was moved around while the engine was running - took a bout 5 minute to fix. Yours may be a totally different situation, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Regarding possible vapor lock, check to see that your tank vent is clear.

So the owner of this boat took it out for the first time this season. He is trying to sell so this was also a test drive! He ran it for 30 min off and on. Started, stopped, ran hard, idled, no problems at all. Then they stopped to swim for 20 mins or so and when they got back in to crank it up, NOTHING! Motor cranks, but will not kick over. Any other ideas??
