MBJAGN---that is a BEAUTIFUL job. Did you paint it yourself? Is it clear/base or what? I'm thinking about painting my merc 9.8....How did you get the chrome on the band so NICE? Tell me more---very impressive. One more thing--does it run as good as it looks?

Dang. I feel like an interloper. So many great old beauties and all I have is a new 2007 50hp. Well, I do have one old beauty. She's cleaning up doggie doo in the 2nd photo. My new Lowe now has a poop deck and has since been christened "Scat".

Re: post pics of your mercs

Thanks jbjennings! I did repaint the entire motor this winter. Just about 4 coats of the Mercury phantom black from the spray cans. Just wet sanded between each coat. Took a week for each coat. As far as the decals, I recreated them in a graphics program, it took me about a week with the dial caliper to get all measurements correct and had them printed on chrome vinyl at a local shop and then I applied the larger chrome strips by hand over the decals. I also had the faceplate re-chromed.

The engine does run great. That had also been freshly rebuilt. I have it on my 1966 14' larson that we had restored this past winter. She will push it to about 28 mph with an 11 pitch prop.

That's pretty awesome dude. I was also wondering, especially about the decals. Mine are all dry cracked. I've considered refinishing mine, might have to do it now that I see yours. That's a nice job!
