Well - if they get the same treatment as Japan and Germany....who knows, in a few years time they might be the powerhouse economy of the Gulf. Stranger things have happened...

well, since the avg. income is about $2.00 a month
a good job would be $ 50/week? no that's GREAT!
more CHEAP labor for sale.... good for them,
bad for certain folks. much cheaper than drillin'
in Alaska by far...
not a cause IMO but an effect.
CYA,
M.Y.

It might not be so bad and he didn't really say who was paying, did he?

Iraq has a cr*pload of oil and not much to spend the money on, other than rebuilding their country, (literally) from the ground up.

I saw a TV bit recently on the country of Qatar. It's so petro-rich, it's literally a la-la land, where nobody pays taxes, everybody works or goes to school. They are building the finest medical schools in the world, just to train local doctors.

Maybe the Iraqi people can finally start swimming that all that "black gold"

Sounds like we are treating this country better then our own. My education is so-so... My whole family has medical issues that are being put off because it is all simply outrageous. ($6000 for nothing more then 50 some stitches on a chainsaw cut) Anyone can get a job here but no one is given a high paying job. Personally I think we should work on our own country. Everything we do over there comes from OUR tax money, and is its a fair price then every bit Iraq gets better is directly proportional to every bit America gets worse. I think that the trillions they take from us should be given back, in the form of cash, or more likely in the form of a country worthy of such taxation! We have a long way to go ourselves before building other people a new country.

BUT THEYVE GOT OIL.

Craig

There's surely some rhetoric to what the president is saying and rightly so.

Many, including Iraqi's, are still worried that we are going to pull a 1991, only this time completely trashing their country, before saying bye-bye.

It does not look like that going to happen this time, though.

I just saw on 60 Minutes, where we are developing a ready-to-go Iraqi goverment/society and recruiting many Iraqi-Americans to go home and help implement it.

This war is big stuff and the rebuilding of Iraq will be big stuff too.

iraq is oil rich. It seems quite likely that THEY will use THEIR oil income to re-emburse the USA for the financial expence of the present freedom movement.

Regardless, what i$ it worth to reduce the threat of another terror attack?

Let's see what happens.

i think whatever we have spent in liberating iraq will be refunded to us once the country is rebuilt. maybe in oil, or trade or in better deals in import/export tariffs. i don't know details, just generalizing here.

i'm thinking it is necessary to help rebuild along with any other countries who want to reap rewards for being a business partner there. they will need alot of commercial construction help, not to mention the highways, enviromental & health related services. all opportunities to help them and bring $$$income to all companies involved. everyone knows they have the crude oil to pay for it, although probably after the fact.

it seems we ought to be proud to be a part if/when they become a productive and independently wealthy nation of freedom & democracy. (lets hope anyway)

it would bite if at that time, they don't remember & appreciate our country for the effort.

I read some time back that we were going to use their oil to pay for rebuilding and the war itself. Seemed like a good plan to me. Havn't seen anything since. Guess the bleeding hearts killed it.
