First weekend I bought my boat I took the family upriver for some sight seeing after making sure it was reliable electrically and mechanically and had a test run or two under my belt.
40 miles up river the motor revs up like the prop fell off, I dreading the idea of losing the prop after just checking it for tightness before we left. Turns out the rubber isolator spun inside the prop so we could only idle back at 2 miles per hour. We pulled to the side of the river so I could get a better look at the prop and I found an old board on the river bank full of drywall screws. I turned 12 screws into the rubber to tighten up the rubber fit on the prop and was able to make half speed back to the ramp.
Dad was the hero that day...I was just glad I brought some tools!
A handful of 4" long SS screws permanently lives in my emergency tool kit from now on.
