Greetings all.
The wife and I are looking to get our first boat for the three kids. I've been looking at a Mariah but went today to look at a 92 Excel 20' (can't remember the full model name.)
Boat was very clean. No soft spots, new carpet, engine started right up and idled very well. Not sure what outdrive, but it's a Volvo 4.3. It's been slipped all summer so I'm sure some hull cleaning will be in order. Paint is good, if a little faded along the top line. No rips in seats, no rot under cushions.
I didn't really know much of the Wellcraft history until trolling this board. It makes me want one more; big fan of older well built machines as opposed to the latest and greatest. My daily driver is a 95 5 series with 170K and I love her.
Anyway, asking price for the boat is $4800, which is in line with others of similar age and build (The Mariah is a 1993 19' w/305, same cosmetic condition. $5800.)
I'm targeting a $4000 offer and just wanted to get some perspective from those who know a lot more than me. Commentary welcome.
Thanks
