Burn it in the campfire like me and my bro did to my dads.

Stupid cheapo crapsman chainsaw darn near pulled your arm off getting it started, ran great in the air, then put it on the log, and it dies.

It did this one too many times, so we had to teach it a lesson.

It took a while, but it burned.

Did Dad a favor, and he wasnt too upset.

Ken

Re: Poulan chainsaw help?

Had the same problem with my 18" Poulan. Cleaned it up to see if it helped. No start. Was a little over two years old with very little use. Had run dry of gas the last time used(gas had sea foam and a stabilizer in it). Tried to get the spark plug out and was seized? It was the original plug. Had a H of a time getting it out. Finally after soaking with every anti seize agent I had on hand and reverting back to my "wrenching days" I got the plug out.
Went and got a plug(not the orig. champion but found a motorcraft equivalent), put it back together and on the second pull it started. Did not overtighten the new plug. Just lucky.
Also my manual says .025 for the gap.

Poulan is junk, if you want it to run, rebuild/replace the carb.........

pull the muffler and look at the piston through the exhaust port they have a habit of self destructing by scoring the piston

Run over it with a dozer and buy a Husquarvana. That's what I did with my Stihl when it quit in the middle of clearing my house lot. I worked on it, the repair shop worked on it and it still ran like crap. No more problem.

What the devil are you talkin' about, "death spray?" You put a shot of that in there & it's off and running. It don't take more than one revolution for them to kick off. Then you got lube. Beleive me they can take that. What in the world are you talking about? Death spray? You did something wrong if you think that caused your problem. Your probalbly listening to these turkeys saying you can't run outboard 2 stroke oil in you puny yard machine. What I mean to say is that whatever your-alls problems are, the ether didn't cause them, they were already there. It wasn't the ether that ruined your chain saws in 1/50th of a second, or less.

Kenneth Brown ...yea I did say carb and diesel in the same sentence...it could have been the air intake...I don't know, there were fuel lines there and that't what the lit newspaper warmed up in order to start in winter...I'd like to give you more info but it happened a long time ago(about 1959) and I only remember the tractor was green, thus the JD...

Re: Poulan chainsaw help?

1 little shot of ether wont kill an engine. My dad and I have been using it on our Caterpillar D-2 for years to get the diesel running. That is one diesel engine that has a carburetor. The carb is for the gas engine that starts the diesel motor. Kinda neat having a pony engine like that to start that monster Cat motor.

Ether wont kill a motor if used sparingly. Something else was wrong with that John Deere.
