A 2 stroke powered cut saw should be available at the rental place. This is what we use to cut expansion joints all the time.

we use a diamond blade but these are expensive and may or may not be included in the rental.

This is a chain saw type tool with a 14 inch round blade. It takes a bit to get used to. It is the one tool I am most careful with in the construction biz.

good luck and congrats on the pour.

A 2 stroke concrete saw sounds like it would make quick work of the expansion joints, probably worth the rental fee.

How long should I wait before cutting the expansion joints, 1 day, 2 days?

There are blades for green concrete and blades for cured concrete so be aware when you use them.I would imagine that the rental place would also have a dolly for the chop saw,it would make your life much easier.Ron G

Cut it NOW! I saw joints usually the same day as placement, and on several of my projects the spec reads all saw cuts to be done within 24 hours. Shrinkage begins immediately after initial hardness is reached. You could easily cut it while it's still green with a masonry blade in a skil saw (diamond is better) and we usually do our cuts dry. Don't wait to cut it!

I took the cheap way out, 10 pack of 7" masonry cutting discs at HF was $10. I glued a piece of formica to the bottom of my circular saw and attached a 1/2" angle to side which worked well, burned through 3 blades cutting 20' at 1-1.25". It took 2 hours to cut the expansion joints, knock the forms off and get everything wet and covered back up, pretty easy work.

Thanks again!
