Does anyone know how many amps a normally operating trim and tilt pump pulls on a j115etl78? Thanks for any information you might have.

Re: power consumption

Normal up = max (stall) 44 amps; Normal down = max (stall) 29 amps.
Trim up = 23; Tilt up = 27
Trim down = 20; Tilt down = 20

See factory service manual, PN 406519, pages 9-8 & 9-9.

Re: power consumption

Hey ezeke, thanks alot for that info. Iam trying to figure out why my down trim switch is burning out. Maybe the motor is going south and pulling to much juice through the switch and frying it. Thanks again!

Re: power consumption

One of the problems of the 1978 system is that there is only one solenoid that is dedicated to the "up" side of the system. The down side takes its power directly from and through the switch. Any weakness in the wiring, and it cannot take the load.

The fuse in the PT&T circuit box should protect the wiring and prevent the wiring from burning, so you may want to check to be sure that it is rated low enough to do that.

In the meantime, you could add another solenoid or a relay system to provide the power directly if you wanted.

Re: power consumption

After I burnt up the second switch I did check the fuse. It was a 40 amp. I dont the switch wiring would handle that.

I dont have a amp meter that goes over 10 amps so I used different sized spade fuses to see how many amps the tnt motor was pulling. A 10 amp fuse blew , a 15 amp didnt. So the motor is not really pulling an excesive amount of amps per your post.

I think a new relay is going to get wired in like the up side before the new switch gets installed.

Thanks ezeke for taking your time and sharing your knowledge with me, I apprecite it very much !!!
