I installed a power amp and subwoofer to my Sony head unit. It is a 10" sub wired at 4 Ohm's. My problem is that it works fine when turned up while the engine is running. When I am sitting with the batteries on 1-2 or both, The head unit cuts out when turned half way up. The amp is hooked up with the sub out rca cables. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks

low voltage at the head unit. When the engine is running its about 2v higher than when the engine is off. what size feed wire do you have going to the head and amp and over what distance

Re: Power cutout on head unit

Glenn, Thanks for the quick reply. You are right. I spoke to my son who is into car audio. He told me I should run the amp power wire to the battery and use the remote power wire to the head unit. Currently I have both the amp and remote power wire going to the head unit. The wires are 18 gauge. The power wire to the head unit is small also. I will use 10-12 gauge to the battery.
