Is there much difference in power/torque between an old Mercury 2.0L 150BHP and a modern 2.5L 200BHP Mariner?

Also the newer Mariner has 'Electronic Ingnition' written on the case - wasn't this on the early V6 150 Mercs? - If not how does it differ?

Thanks

Jim

Both engines have "electronic ignition". Depending on the year, they may have the same ignition systems. Merc used the ADI ignition for all motors from about 1980 to somewhere in the mid 2000s, when some motors got a newer style ign (CDM).

The 2.5L block has greater displacement and HP, so expect greatest performance improvement out of the hole, as well moderate improvement in mid-range and high speed.

Other than 50 HP increase,53 pounds torque increase, and about 35 lbs lighter than the 2.0 its a big difference. The 150 has 143 pounds of torque vs the 200 at 190 pounds.
