power head identefication?

i bought what was suppose to be a 1976 135 hp johnson come to find out i have a later power head unknown size and year on a 1976 lower unit with the 1976 carburaters its been a nightmare how can i find out what size and year powerhead????

Looking from the rear of the motor, Spark plug side look on the top of the motor just off center right you'll see a welch plug with numbers on it.Its bout the size of a 25 cent piece (quarter).Some have ser.# and model# some dont have mod#.thats bout your only chance.

This is what the welch plug in the top of the block looks like. Your powerhead can't be too much newer, as the powerhead mounting designs changed in 1978.
