Re: power head swap?

Area's to think about and compare, outside of bolt pattern of bottom of power head.
control linkage mounting , shift linkage, (cable and shift rod), wire harness connection. and the trouble -some solenoid selnoid.
Also how far of a swap? are you using the same fly wheel of the power head, 76 the 76 flywheel 76 the 76 power head . because there could be a difference between the years .
lastly I would count the spline of the drive shafts and the end of the crankshaft, one year could be a fine spline where the other year may carry a course spline.

I do not know the spline count on the newer motor but I do know that the 1976 70 hp has a 4 spline drive shaft

Re: power head swap?

i say powerhead swap, ive got two complete engines
on a stand the 76 has a hole in the block the 86 has had the seized t/t parts torched off , the 76 mount wont swap
i guess because of shaft length the gear cases on both engines seem to be ok if the bolts line up and the splines match is there any thing anyone can think of that would stand in my way? any other sugg? used t/t gear maybe,is it hard to find ?
